I’m a big fan of retro sci-fi movies. There’s something oddly comforting in their strange imagery. Their bone-clean black and white film and the obvious staging evoke so much with so little. They are inspired, and often cheap as dirt. You can see the ways in which they’ve paved the way for bigger, badder things that later came – movies that I love. Each one is a time capsule, looking at us from the past.
H.G. Well’s “Things to Come” is one of those films. And Mondo pays homage to it. This bad boy, the AWESOME Mondo piece from artist Laurent Durieux, is being released tomorrow.
