BAM! SMACK! PUN! – The 60s Batman and Robin are Back!

Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar return for Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders

If this year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice wasn’t your jam, the fine folks at DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. have you covered. Entertainment Weekly just debuted an exclusive teaser trailer for the upcoming animated Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, which captures and celebrates the spirit of the 60s Batman television series. Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar all return to voice these iconic characters for this 50th Anniversary film.

The 60s Batman has been having quite a revival in the past few years. If you haven’t been reading Batman ’66, you’re missing out a charming and exciting series that bucks the 30+ year trend of comic characters—specifically Batman—needing to be dark and brooding in order to be entertaining. And, in 2014, Warner Bros. finally released the complete series on Blu-ray and DVD in one perfect box set. This new animated film is a welcome addition to this weird and wonderful, brightly colored world with all the elaborate death traps, puns, and “Holy … Batman” proclamations.

And just a reminder, in case you’re looking to complete your Adam West/Burt Ward collection, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment offers Legends of the Superheroes available as a manufacture-on-demand DVD. This two-part television special from 1979 was the last time Adam West and Burt Ward offered a live-action portrayal of Batman and Robin (with Frank Gorshin in tow as the Riddler). A heading-scratching oddity on par with the Star Wars Holiday Special, it’s a must-see for fans.

Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC Entertainment, debuts on VOD platforms on October 11th and Blu-Ray on November 1st.
