Celebrity Verses Poetry: Casey Kasem’s Hamburger Exchange

Casey Kasem’s Hamburger Exchange

“In the name of King David, I threw a piece of raw meat into the street in exchange for my husband to the wild rabid dogs.” – Jean Kasem (wife of Casey Kasem)

Oh what pious passion
to toss hamburger meat,
the most divine of flesh,
surely the most blessed chuck
to have been chucked
in exchange for a husband.

Oh flying meat,
your invisible angel wings
given when Biblical fury
meets meated hands,
soaring through the sun,
rays glinting against
fat veins and blood droppings,
soaring heavenward
to meet thy maker
before ground splatted squish
on Round Up grass,
pummeling aphids
and awaiting the scavengers.
