Artist Jay Shaw has an impressive body of work with Mondo Tees. His latest is a stark, bold piece for the film The Act of Killing. Produced by Errol Morris and Werner Herzog, the documentary film is about an Indonesian death squad whose leaders are celebrated as heroes for killing millions back in the 60s. Director Joshua Oppenheimer challenges these members to reenact their real-life mass killings in the style of American movies, which they do eagerly, resulting in a bizarre and highly moving and disturbing film.
The poster captures with simplicity the underlying violence associated with this story. It’s really kind of crazy.
I’m including a couple of other Mondo pieces by Jay Shaw, just because they’re so cool. My personal favorite is Wolf Man.
