Goodbye, Maya Angelou

May 28, 2014 in Robbie Imes, Books

“I created myself. I have taught myself so much.” – Maya Angelou

World renowned author, poet, and civil rights activist Maya Angelou has died at the age of 86. She’s reportedly battled health problems in the past few months, and recently canceled a scheduled an event appearance to be held in her honor.

Angelou was a celebrated poet, novelist, educator, producer, actress, filmmaker and civil rights activist. She received more than 50 honorary degrees and has inspired millions of people over the course of her life. She was a gift to creatives, to the underserved, the marginalized, and the intellectually elite. She was a rare bird, and her song of life will be missed.

Goodbye, Maya Angelou.
